Over the past couple of days, since this blog was launched, I've been carefully monitoring and tracking the number of unique visitors (A total of 559) and the conversion to Premier Member rate (2.7%). I've also been identifying the primary sources of traffic and paying attention to search terms and other factors.
I have a fairly clear plan for Marketing Confidential: By the end of 2009, my objective is to achieve a total of 1500 Premier Members.
Achieving a total of 1500 members means that I need to recruit 4 new Premier Members each day. Assuming that the conversion rate remains at 2.7%, that means that I need to attract approximately 150 unique visitors every day.
Now that I have those numbers, all I need to do is to determine which traffic tactics will consistently and efficiently generate that level of targeted traffic.
Do you know your key numbers?
Do you have clear targets and objectives for your sites?
You have to know your numbers!

Hi John - I got your most recent email and I just took a quick look over your blog and I'm impressed. I knew right away that I'd like to read all your posts and learn more about what you're doing because unlike you I've tested nothing in my marketing.
Call me lazy, too busy or just plain foolish; probably all 3 apply, but I do want to repent and change my ways. I think that I can probably learn a lot from you and your blog posts, so I'll be back. (I have other reasons for not testing, not to be mentioned here).
I too just recently started my new blog and haven't really promoted it yet over the 'net so would appreciate a visit from you and a quick comment/post.
Check it out: http://norffio.blogspot.com Thanks.

2.7% seems like a very promising number. What traffic generation techniques did you use to achieve a 2.7%? would you expect this number to change if it comes from a different source?
Knowing your numbers and objectives is the basis of all good business - set your goals!!
Great Article.
Hi John,
Have you factored in cancellations? Sadly with IM memberships (on average at least), a great many disappear within only 5 months. This could, and I expect will, affect your target figure.

@Chris
I'm sure that there will be some attrition, that's only to be expected. However, for simplification of the numbers I left that out of my calculations.
I will be working on increasing the conversion rate and I have plans in place to reward loyalty. (More to come on that later
)

@Norf
You've made an excellent start, don't worry too much about the number of people who comment at this stage. Focus on adding great content and on building traffic.. see my above reply @Kettlewell for some suggestions.

Hi John,
With such a high conversion rate, do you plan to have a separated sales page or are you gonna keep it as it is, a dedicated post?
Patrice
@Patrice.
I deliberately set up the blog in it's own directory so that I could test an independent sales page or a squeeze page in the root directory.
It's part of the master plan
John
