If you've done even just a small amount of online shopping, I wouldn't be at all surprised to discover that you've seen a lot of alternative payment buttons.

It is usually associated with danger or the need to stop, so why would you choose red for a payment button? I can tell you that red buttons are among the worst performers.

Having tested a diverse range of text and colour combinations, I can confirm that the optimum results were achieved with blue, green and grey buttons that were compatible with the design of the site.     I tried experimenting with the color yellow, thinking that yellow was an 'action' color, but it seems that with all the internet warnings being red or yellow, these colors have become 'scare' colors, and should be avoided. Still very effective in the real world, but best left out of your online sales process.
